What a day

Some days with the little bean are sweet and magical, we read books, go to the playground, the Botanical Gardens or Coney Island and some are just crazy. I should have known today would be difficult when she refused to sit in either of her strollers for our morning walk with Peter. She wouldn't do it and so Peter left on his own and Zelda and I hung out inside for the morning until I could convince her to go to the playground. Again, no stroller so I carried her. Once at the playground she decided she had to throw sand at all the other little kids and deposit as much as she could in my lap. I said, 'no', I tried to get her to put sand in the bucket and I tried ignoring her (all 3 tactics I have read about on how to get toddlers to change their actions) but the only way to stop the growing pile of sand in my dress was to drag her kicking and screaming from the sandbox and back home. In retaliation she poured her milk down the back of my dress. Lunchtime was pretty calm, the bean was happy with a yogurt and I tried to make some whole wheat pancakes with fruit for her as a snack. I might have gotten a little distracted because as the pancakes were cooking on the stovetop and I was pushing Zelda around the kitchen in her toy car the smoke alarm went off. When the smoke alarm goes off at our house, you can't just open the windows and push the off button, the fire department comes to put out your fire. The firemen were not happy, but they were very sweet to the little bean. I told them it wouldn't happen again (I hope it doesn't)! Now she is desperately trying to get her diaper off in an effort to be naked. Clothing is much too restrictive for her....good thing bedtime is only 3 hours away.
