Nerdy by Nature

When the doctor first told me that Zelda would need glasses I assumed that (since babies with glasses are not something you see every day) I would get a lot of random and maybe not so nice questions or comments. Honestly, when you have a baby people are ALWAYS giving you unsolicited comments and advice, but so far strangers have been very sweet about them. These are some of the questions we have gotten:

1. "Is your baby nearsighted or farsighted?"

2. "How do you know your baby needs glasses?"

3. "Are those real?"

4. "What is her prescription?"

5. "How does she keep those on?"

6. "How long will she have to wear them?"

7. "Can you buy your baby crazy cool frames for her glasses?"

and my favorite...

8. "Man, you guys have to see this baby's glasses!" (An MTA ticketing agent at Grand Central talking to his work colleagues.)

The answers, in case you were wondering are:

1. Zelda is farsighted.

2. We found out the little bean needed glasses when she started to cross her eyes a little bit.

3. Yes, her glasses are real.

4. I'm sorry I can't remember her prescription, but it is STRONG!

5. She doesn't always keep her glasses on, when she is eating, getting changed or cranky they come right off.

6.  Zelda will probably have to wear them for a couple of years, but eyes continue to grow until the age of 7 so we won't know what her eyesight will probably change.

7. I have not found crazy cool frames for Zelda yet, but I think the ones she has are quite sweet.

8. Yes, people should see how cute Zelda's glasses are!

I remember when I was little I wanted a pair of glasses really badly and when I was nineteen I thought about buying a pair of frames without prescription lenses so that I could wear them and feel smart when I had a big test in college. Now Zelda looks totally brilliant and when she doesn't have them on it feels like something is missing.
