Getting Dressed

Tuesday, July 5, 2011

At about 9am on the weekdays when Peter has left for work and Zelda and I are playing together in her playpen I begin to think about what I need to do. Zelda has been changed, fed, clothed and Hugo'd (this involves a lot of doggy licks on the little bean's nose and feet). Now it is my turn to put on my clothes, brush my teeth and tie back my hair. IT SOUNDS SO EASY! For some reason I have the hardest time. Now that the little bean can crawl her ability to get into and out of anything amazes me. In just a moment while opening the door to my closet and peeking at my clothes she has either crawled to the other room or is trying to stand while balancing herself on the drawer that has been left open. I never realized getting dressed in the morning would be such a production. How do moms do it?
I have tried other solutions:

1. I have attempted to hold Zelda while putting on my pants (I didnt even get one foot in).

2. Putting my clothes out the night before (somehow the dog is really adept at finding those clothes I have laid out and sleeping on them).

3. Get dressed before Zelda wakes up (this would involve me actually setting and getting out of bed when an alarm goes off, not sure I have ever been successful at that).

4. Waiting for someone else to come over and watch the baby while I get dressed (this strategy works very well if my parents are stopping by, but I think the FedEx guy might find it a bit creepy).

This of course leads me to the conclusion, getting myself dressed = danger to Zelda. So, unless I wake up extra early before the babe herself wakes up I spend the morning in my pajamas. This is actually not so bad, I have really nice pajamas.
